How the formula works

MIU calculates GPA by multiplying each course grade value by its credit hours, then dividing total quality points by total credit hours, excluding WS/WU credit hours. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Misr International University config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: The official student guide lists R beside a repeated course grade, but the reviewed source does not state a machine-calculable replacement formula.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Misr International University courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A (4.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B (3.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C (2.00 points)

The semester GPA is 3.00 and the updated CGPA is 3.00 using this university's rounding rules.
