Truncating instead of rounding can be the difference between sitting just above or just below a scholarship threshold, so it is worth checking your own university's rule.
Because the point values differ. Four courses at the second-best grade give 8.000 at Auckland University of Technology (A = 8.0 points) but 8.00 at University of Canterbury (A = 8.0 points). Identical performance, different numbers.
