How the formula works

Lincoln GPA multiplies course credits by grade point values, sums the achieved points, and divides by total attempted course credits. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Lincoln University config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: Lincoln states term and cumulative GPA are calculated across courses attempted, but a universal repeated-course replacement rule was not clear in public official sources.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Lincoln University courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (9.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (6.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (3.00 points)

The semester GPA is 6.00 and the updated CGPA is 3.69 using this university's rounding rules.
