How the formula works

JUST's official table assigns grade points to each course grade; credit hours are the unit of course weight, so GPA is calculated as credit-hour weighted grade points. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Jordan University of Science and Technology config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: The official grading source provides the undergraduate grade-point table, but the repeated-course replacement rule was not clear enough in the sources found to encode automatically.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Jordan University of Science and Technology courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (4.20 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (3.50 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (2.75 points)

The semester GPA is 3.48 and the updated CGPA is 3.11 using this university's rounding rules.

FAQ

How is semester GPA calculated at Jordan University of Science and Technology?

The calculator multiplies each GPA-counted grade point by its credits, adds the quality points, divides by GPA-counted credits, and applies standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Are pass/fail courses included in GPA?

Pass/fail grades follow the exact GPA-counting flags stored in the Jordan University of Science and Technology config.

What about repeated courses?

The official grading source provides the undergraduate grade-point table, but the repeated-course replacement rule was not clear enough in the sources found to encode automatically.
