How the formula works

NUS GPA is the sum of course grade points multiplied by corresponding units, divided by total units for courses with assigned grade points. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the National University of Singapore config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: NUS official grading pages define GPA calculation and excluded grades, but a general machine-calculable repeated-course GPA replacement rule was not clear in the cited public sources.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these National University of Singapore courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (5.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (4.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (2.50 points)

The semester GPA is 3.83 and the updated CGPA is 3.19 using this university's rounding rules.
