How the formula works

NYCU GPA is treated as a credit-weighted grade-point average using the official grade-point table; pass/fail and in-progress grades are excluded. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: NYCU official regulations define the grade-point table and GPA-based total grade policy, but a general repeated-course replacement rule was not clear in public official sources.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (4.30 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (3.30 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (2.30 points)

The semester GPA is 3.30 and the updated CGPA is 3.07 using this university's rounding rules.
