How the formula works

Assumption's official VMES grading page states GPA is calculated by multiplying each letter-grade point value by credit hours and dividing by total credit hours. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Assumption University config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: Assumption University's official engineering-school page describes conditional repeat handling in which prior grades may be changed to R after a successful repeat, but the public wording is conditional and requires manual review before automatic replacement.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Assumption University courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A (4.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B (3.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C (2.00 points)

The semester GPA is 3.00 and the updated CGPA is 3.00 using this university's rounding rules.

FAQ

Does this calculator use a generic Thailand GPA formula?

No. This page uses the grading configuration for Assumption University. Another university in Thailand can have different grade points, rounding rules, or pass/fail handling.

How is semester GPA calculated at Assumption University?

The calculator multiplies each GPA-counted grade point by its credits, adds the quality points, divides by GPA-counted credits, and applies standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Are pass/fail courses included in GPA?

Pass/fail grades marked as non-GPA in the Assumption University config are excluded from GPA points, although credit may still be earned when the grade allows it.

What about repeated courses?

Assumption University's official engineering-school page describes conditional repeat handling in which prior grades may be changed to R after a successful repeat, but the public wording is conditional and requires manual review before automatic replacement.
