How the formula works

IIHEM defines GPA as the average of grade points in the student's academic transcript. Enter the same credit value for each course to compute that equal-weight average. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the International Institute for Higher Education in Morocco config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: When a course is retaken, only the highest grade received for the course is used in computing the GPA.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these International Institute for Higher Education in Morocco courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (4.30 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (3.30 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (2.30 points)

The semester GPA is 3.30 and the updated CGPA is 3.07 using this university's rounding rules.
