Nord University converts every graded course into quality points by multiplying the grade's point value by the course's credit hours. Your semester GPA is the total quality points divided by the total credit hours that count toward the GPA, and the result is rounded to the nearest 2 decimal places. Points run from 0.0 up to 5.0, so a higher average is a better result. The scale has no plus/minus steps, so every grade in a band is worth exactly the same number of points.
F, P, and NP carry no point value at Nord University, so a course marked with one of them drops out of the division entirely — it changes neither the top nor the bottom of the fraction. P still earns credit toward your degree while staying out of the GPA, which is why your credit total can climb in a semester where your GPA barely moves.
Nord University states that each letter grade is converted to a numeric value, multiplied by credits/studiepoeng, summed, and divided by the total credits included in the calculation. Nord University shares the Norwegian A-E weighted average grade-points scale with Norwegian School of Economics, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology and 4 others, while University of South-Eastern Norway grade on a different scale. Rounding is not uniform either: Nord University has its cumulative average rounded to the nearest 2 decimal places, whereas Norwegian University of Science and Technology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway and 1 other do it differently.

Nord University does not grade on the US 4.0 scale. Its scale runs to 5.0 rather than 4.0, with 5 point values in use and E as the lowest passing mark. These are the places where the Nord University rules differ from what most students assume, and where a hand calculation usually goes wrong.
Counting P courses in the average
These earn credit at Nord University but carry no grade points, so they belong in your credit total and nowhere near the GPA division. Including them is one of the most common reasons a hand-calculated GPA comes out wrong.
Borrowing plus/minus values from another university
The Nord University table has no plus or minus steps — every grade in a band is worth the same points. Intermediate values like 3.3 or 3.7 do not exist on this scale.
Averaging the grades instead of weighting them
A course worth twice the credits moves your GPA twice as much. Adding up your grade points and dividing by the number of courses ignores that weighting and is almost always wrong.
Expecting a 0-credit course to move the number
Nord University allows them, but with no credit hours they contribute nothing to either side of the division.
