How the formula works

GPA is calculated by multiplying each course grade point by its credit hours, summing those quality points, and dividing by GPA credit hours, then rounding to the nearest hundredth. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Modern College of Business and Science config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: MCBS states that the second grade replaces the first for one D or F repeat, while second and subsequent attempts all count if a course is taken three or more times. The current engine cannot model that conditional repeat sequence exactly.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Modern College of Business and Science courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A (4.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B (3.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C (2.00 points)

The semester GPA is 3.00 and the updated CGPA is 3.00 using this university's rounding rules.

FAQ

Does this calculator use a generic Oman GPA formula?

No. This page uses the grading configuration for Modern College of Business and Science. Another university in Oman can have different grade points, rounding rules, or pass/fail handling.

How is semester GPA calculated at Modern College of Business and Science?

The calculator multiplies each GPA-counted grade point by its credits, adds the quality points, divides by GPA-counted credits, and applies standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Are pass/fail courses included in GPA?

Pass/fail grades marked as non-GPA in the Modern College of Business and Science config are excluded from GPA points, although credit may still be earned when the grade allows it.

What about repeated courses?

MCBS states that the second grade replaces the first for one D or F repeat, while second and subsequent attempts all count if a course is taken three or more times. The current engine cannot model that conditional repeat sequence exactly.
