How the formula works

Semester GPA uses all course grades in a semester, and CGPA is calculated from the student's full course record including repeated-course handling. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Royal University for Women config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: RUW states that only the last grade, including W for a repeated passed course, is counted in CGPA; failed-course repeats with the repeat notation override the failing grade.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Royal University for Women courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A (4.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B (3.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C (2.00 points)

The semester GPA is 3.00 and the updated CGPA is 3.00 using this university's rounding rules.
