How the formula works

Maynooth states annual marks are credit-weighted average marks and taught postgraduate award marks are the credit-weighted average of all modules making up the award. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Maynooth University config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted.
