How the formula works

GPA is calculated by multiplying course grade points by credit hours, summing grade points, and dividing by total registered semester credit hours. CGPA totals the same products across all semesters and divides by total credit hours registered in all semesters. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the University of Management and Technology config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: UMT states the new grade earned after repeating a course is counted in GPA/CGPA calculation.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these University of Management and Technology courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (4.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (3.30 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (2.30 points)

The semester GPA is 3.20 and the updated CGPA is 3.05 using this university's rounding rules.
