How the formula works

Edinburgh states undergraduate degree classification is derived by calculating the mean of course marks weighted by course credit points, usually across the honours years. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the University of Edinburgh config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: Edinburgh honours-year exceptions, study-abroad weighting, integrated masters weightings, and programme-specific models are conditional, so repeated-course handling is manual review.
