How the formula works

EdUHK Programme GPA is calculated by summing Grade Point Equivalent multiplied by credit points for attempted courses, including failed courses, divided by total credits attempted. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the The Education University of Hong Kong config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: EdUHK's public regulations define the weighted Programme GPA calculation but do not provide a general machine-calculable repeated-course replacement rule.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these The Education University of Hong Kong courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (4.33 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B+ (3.33 points)
  • Course 33 credits x C+ (2.33 points)

The semester GPA is 3.33 and the updated CGPA is 3.08 using this university's rounding rules.
