How the formula works

Utrecht University states the weighted average grade is calculated by multiplying all numerical grades on the International Diploma Supplement by the credits obtained and dividing by the sum of credits. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Utrecht University config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: Utrecht retakes allow students to keep working until a passing grade is recorded, but substitute tests and programme rules are conditional, so repeated-course handling is manual review.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Utrecht University courses:
