How the formula works

Korea University publishes grade points by grade; P and S earn credit but are not calculated in GPA. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Korea University config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: Korea University states the higher of the first and second grades is reflected in GPA; the lower grade is marked R.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Korea University courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A+ (4.50 points)
  • Course 23 credits x B (3.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x D+ (1.50 points)

The semester GPA is 3.00 and the updated CGPA is 3.00 using this university's rounding rules.
