How the formula works

CGPA is total quality points earned at ADU divided by total credit hours taken, excluding grades listed by ADU as excluded from CGPA. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 2 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 2 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the Abu Dhabi University config: supported pass grades are excluded from GPA points. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: The official catalog pages used for this config define grading, GPA, CGPA, and excluded grades, but the public undergraduate source reviewed here does not provide a machine-calculable repeated-course replacement rule.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.00 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these Abu Dhabi University courses:

  • Course 13 credits x A (4.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x C+ (2.50 points)
  • Course 33 credits x D (1.00 points)

The semester GPA is 2.50 and the updated CGPA is 2.88 using this university's rounding rules.
