The scale uses plus and minus grades, so there are 12 distinct point values rather than a handful of whole steps: A is worth 4.0 and A- is worth 3.7.

What gets left out of the average

I, P, NP, CC, CX, S, AW, and W carry no point value at United Arab Emirates University, so a course marked with one of them drops out of the division entirely — it changes neither the top nor the bottom of the fraction.
