How the formula works

UC GPA is converted grade score multiplied by credit points, divided by credit points, to three decimal places. For semester GPA, each GPA-counted course is converted to quality points by multiplying grade points by credits. The semester GPA is the total quality points divided by total GPA-counted credits, then rounded with standard rounding to 3 decimal places. The updated CGPA combines the student's existing quality points with this semester's quality points, then rounds with standard rounding to 3 decimal places.

Pass/fail and non-GPA grades are handled from the University of Canberra config: pass/fail handling is included only when the university data marks it as GPA-counted. Repeat-course handling uses this rule: University of Canberra states all units undertaken in a course are included in automatic GPA calculations unless specifically excluded by grade.

Worked example

Suppose a student starts with 3.000 CGPA after 30 completed credits and takes these University of Canberra courses:

  • Course 13 credits x HD (7.00 points)
  • Course 23 credits x P (4.00 points)
  • Course 33 credits x NX (0.00 points)

The semester GPA is 3.667 and the updated CGPA is 3.154 using this university's rounding rules.
